Description-
Rubber injection moulding is a process that is used to manufacture rubber products. It is one of the most important processes in the rubber industry. The process involves injecting molten rubber into a mould cavity and then cooling it to form a solid product.
1. Solid raw material is mixed with a small amount of water and heated to about 100 degrees Celsius, or about 203 degrees Fahrenheit. The rubber is then injected under pressure into a mould cavity containing an upper die that forms the shape of the product, and with a lower die that forms the tooling surface.
2. Once the mould has been closed and allowed to cool, the rubber product can be removed.
3. The tooling surface is then left in place and the rubber is injected into this cavity forming a new mould with the shape of the product.
4. This process repeats until the entire required product has been formed on one mould surface or there are no more parts to be made on that mould
Features of Rubber Injection Moulding-
Injection moulding is the process of forcing molten plastic material into a mold cavity to produce a desired shape. It involves the use of a metal mold to shape a rubber compound which is then injected into the mold cavity. The finished product is then removed from the mold and allowed to cool before it can be used.
The process can be broken down into two stages: first, the mold is closed and heated to soften the plastic inside it. Then, once the temperature has reached a certain point, high pressure is applied to force molten plastic (or other material) into the mold cavity.
Rubber injection moulding has many features that make it such an attractive option for creating plastic parts.
- Firstly, it is an efficient process as it requires less production time than other processes such as metal casting or die-casting.
- Secondly, because rubber has high resilience and elasticity, products created with this method are more resistant to breakage and wear than those made through metal casting or die-casting methods.
- Thirdly, Rubber injection moulding produces items that are easier to handle and carry than metal casting or die-casting methods.
Advantages-
Rubber injection moulding is used to manufacture goods such as conveyor belts, shoe soles, and floor mats. It can also be used to produce large components such as automobile body panels. The process involves three major steps: pre-forming, moulding, and post-forming.
It is used in many industries such as automotive, aerospace and construction. It offers advantages such as low cost, low weight and high performance.
Rubber injection moulding has many benefits, some of which are:
-Reduced tooling costs
-Increased production rates
-Improved product quality
-Improved product form
